Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media analyst for more than twenty years. She is also a seasoned public speech writer. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips which include commentary on gender representations in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. She is the founder and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly, non-profit website which explores representations of women within popular culture narratives. Alongside working to expose the issues surrounding the targeted and sexist assaults on women and other minorities in online spaces she is committed to breaking the stereotypes prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian has a degree in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university, Sarkeesian became interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and women's rights at an early stage. The ambitious young woman was targeted on the internet for her website that focused on the gender of videogames. The harassment didn't discourage her. It only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been awarded to her as a way of acknowledging all of the contribution she has have made. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that examines how women are depicted in popular culture of today.
