JoyceDeWitt began her stage career at age 13. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree from Ball State University. When she performed in her summer stock she was persuaded by the director to attend UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was given the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed that she never encountered Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is most well-known for her performance in the series Three's Company's run from 1977 to 1984 as Janet Wood. This was the first job she had after being cast in the second pilot. Janet was also featured in the episode of The Ropers in 1979. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in the year 1984, following which she resigned from acting for a while. Acting was her first foray back on stage in June of 1991 when she was a performer on an episode of the Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. The actress also appeared in the show Spring Fling which was a 1995 TV comedy. A character that was based on her, voiced by an actress, appeared in a 1997 episode of Pinky and the Brain. The actress appeared on the episode Cybill, and had a cameo on the penultimate episode of Living Single. [6] She has appeared in TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
